I Heart Japanese Patterns

Today I am joining the London Sew Social / Tuttle Publishing Blog Tour

If you follow me you already know that I love Japanese sewing books. They have the most lovely, interesting, simple & practical, pretty & casual, comfortable patterns. The instructions are simple, straight to the point, and make use of all the proper techniques. Yes, they just have it all! And the styling on the books is just... perfect!

The Moiano Coat

This blog post in a single sentence: I have FINALLY found my go-to pattern for coats!

You have no idea for how long I have been looking for a pattern like this! And the-all-amazing An nailed it! (Thank you An!)

Sisters New Knit Outfits - Thread Faction SS2016

Hi! Today I am showcasing new coordinating knit outfits I made for my girls as part of the Thread Faction SS2016 tour.

Do you know Thread Faction patterns? (formerly Hatchlings patterns)
It's a pattern company owned by the amazingly talented Liz Elliott, who lives in Australia. Believe me, you want to know these patterns! I am so (so!) impressed by their overall quality!

Thread Faction just launched a new pattern collection. The Spring/Summer 2016 collection presents several knit girls patterns. (But you can hack a few of them into boys patterns! Just check what my friend Diana did here. Super cute, right?)

There's a mix of 7 patterns that make up for the perfect beach/Summer styles: shorts, romper, circle skirt dress, racer back tank & dress, boxy top, etc. They are all super trendy and easy to make! And the best part: Liz makes use of all the proper techniques for sewing with knits. These patterns will take you to the next level on your sewing skills!

From My Mother To Me

This picture was taken in 1957 at my grandfather's sewing machine store. He was a sewing machine dealer of Singer machines through several years. How fun is that? My mom was 3 years-old and she was wearing an handmade dress.

She has had an almost 100% handmade wardrobe as a child and even as a teenager. I love going through her photos and looking closer to all her outfits. These were the days where people would go to dressmakers in order to get their clothes made. My mom has always had an amazing wardrobe, full of lovely girl clothes and of stylish teenage dresses - the 60's style in all its glory!

She kept having some of her clothes handmade by dressmakers when she became an adult. Overall I think her wardrobe was 50-50 handmade / RTW when I was a child. But one thing was common: she had an impeccable sense of style!

The Miss Polly Dress

Hi! Today I am joining the Miss Polly dress tour, a new pattern by Sewpony Vintage. I can't say enough good things about this pattern. I love it so much! Suzanne has such an eye for designing girls dresses. They are always original! And I love that they are modern patterns with a vintage style.

The Eleena Dress

Hi, again! :) It seems like I keep breaking all the great rules of blogging. I post either too sparingly or, like today, I post twice on the same day. But hey, I have always been a rebel, haha.

This is the Eleena dress, one of my favorite dress patterns ever! This is the dress I made during the pattern testing and I am showing it today as part of the Eleena Dress Tour. I love the vintage look of this pattern! But I decided to make a modern edgier version of it. (I am a rebel, remember? hehe)

The Tip Top

Happy Holidays everyone!! This is my favorite time of the year! Well, at least until Spring arrives there is. Then you will probably hear me saying that again. :)

I am finally sharing one of my favorite makings of 2015, which is actually one of my favorite makings ever! It's the Tip Top & Dress pattern by one of my favorite pattern designers (and one of my references when it comes to kids style and fashion), Celina Bailey of Petit à Petit and Family

The Holiday Debut Tour

Christmas is just around the corner! Yay! Today I am all Christmas-y here as I join the Holiday Debut Blog Tour. This tour showcases three different patterns from three different designers that debuted this year: Holli of Hello Holli, Gabriela of Chalk and Notch and Saskia of The Wolf and The Tree. These ladies did an amazing job with their first pattern! I am in awe.

I had the chance to test the Blue Ridge dress and the Fishtail Kimono a few months ago and now I have sewn up Abby's Tights. All I can say is that I absolutely love these patterns! I can't wait to see what their next patterns are! The bar is set high, ladies! :) (No pressure intended, ha!)

KCW January 2014 wrap-up

What a great season of Kid's Clothing Week (KCW)!

I l-o-v-e KCW! But I have to be honest... KCW is always a mixed feelings event for me... It motivates me to create and to challenge myself to try new patterns and to be more productive but sometimes I get discouraged with all the amazing things that some very talented moms are able to do in one week! But it just ends up inspiring me to do even more and better! I love this event and I am so happy it happens once in every season of the year!

Last season (Fall season - October 2013) I was able to make a Bubble skirt and two Kaleidoscope tops.

This season (Winter - January 2014) I was able to make just a bit more:
Esta temporada (Inverno - Janeiro 2014) consegui fazer apenas um pouco mais:

There were a few more things on my to-do list for this week that I didn't got to make (I already knew that was an ambicious list...), but I am very happy with the overall result of this week. Even more because the Pippa peplum was featured on day 4 in the KCW blog! (How exciting is that!)

One of the things I love most about this sewing event is the opportunity to just be inspired by some great women all around the world - the patterns they use or self-draft, their fabric choices, their photo styling... Amazing!

Some people share great tutorials and free patterns! You may want to check these:

Algumas pessoas partilham até passo-a-passos e moldes grátis! Talvez queiram espreitar estes:

Portugal had (again) some great participants!

Portugal teve (outra vez) algumas participações muito boas!

Can´t wait for next KCW! (Probably happening sometime around April...)
